The Albemarle District Jail operates on a cashless system. An account will be opened in an inmate’s name at the time of their admission. Any cash, money orders, or checks from other correctional facilities in their possession at the time of their admission will be deposited into their account at this time.  An inmate’s fund account serves as their personal debit account for all their canteen purchases and for other debits.

Friends and Family Members Can Deposit Money to an Account in Two Ways

  1. Credit card deposits may be made by family members/friends through the web at accesscorrections.com.
  2. Family and friends may also send funds through the mail in the form of a money order or cashier’s checks.

Personal checks will not be accepted and will be returned to sender. Money order and cashier’s checks received through the mail will be turned over for processing by jail staff Monday through Saturday for deposit by the end of the business day. Inmates will be provided a receipt for the deposit with their mail delivery.

Be aware, inmates account will also be debited for routine, non-emergency health care appointments and for prescriptive medications. Inmate accounts can also be debited to pay restitution for damage they may have caused to county property during their confinement. Inmates are responsible for their account and for monitoring their withdrawals and deposits.

Money remaining in their account will be returned to them when they are released or transferred from the facility for a period of greater than 24 hours. Inmates will receive a debit card in the amount of their remaining balance in these cases. They will be required to sign for receipt of the debit card.
